Tangled Roots Farm Tour 2026: Valenveras Is Heading to the Emerald Triangle

Valenveras is joining the Tangled Roots Farm Tour 2026, running 10–14 September across Mendocino and Humboldt County, California. Our CEO Rubén Valenzuela will be on the road with breeders, growers and craft cannabis brands — and he is bringing the Valenveras Portable Lab with him.

The tour is built around Cannifest, held at the Arcata Ball Park on 12 and 13 September 2026.

Why the Emerald Triangle

The Emerald Triangle — Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity Counties — is where craft cannabis got its reputation. Cultivation here dates back to the 1960s, and two ballot measures shaped what came after: Proposition 215 in 1996, which legalised medical use in California, and Proposition 64 in 2016, which opened adult-use sale.

The scale surprises people. Humboldt has the largest cannabis farming industry in the Triangle, but a 2021 survey put the median farm size at around 0.22 acres. This is small-batch agriculture built on multi-generational knowledge, not commodity production.

That is exactly the audience we want to spend five days with.

The farms

The tour visits licensed farms in the Tangled Roots consortium, including Ridgeline Farms, Huckleberry Hill Farms, Casa Flor and Canna Country. Tangled Roots brings these breeders together in one catalogue alongside Mendo Dope, SoHum Seeds and CALegacy — a roster that reads like a map of Northern California cannabis breeding.

Joining us on the tour are Grove Bags, Moose Labs, Alpine Hemp Company and Dr. Dabber. Between them they cover post-harvest, consumption and brand — four different points in the same supply chain, one plant.

Cannifest 2026

Cannifest is Humboldt County’s long-running cannabis and community festival, produced by Humboldt Green Events, now in its eleventh year. The 2026 edition moves to the historic Arcata Ball Park under the theme “Build the Village”, with four stages spanning live music, panel discussions, comedy and games.

For anyone working in cannabis quality, two areas matter most: the Farmers Grove, a space built to connect attendees directly with small farms and cultivators, and the CannAbyss Talk Stage, the festival’s education hub for panels and heritage storytelling. Tickets at cannifest.com.

Why we’re bringing an analyser to a farm tour

Here is the honest version.

The Emerald Triangle was built on judgement. Reading a plant by feel. Knowing when a lot is ready by squeezing a bud. Selecting a keeper by smell. That knowledge is real and nothing replaces it.

But it does not transfer. It does not scale across five sites, it cannot be handed to a new employee in one season, and it does not satisfy an auditor.

Take curing. Grove Bags’ TerpLoc films work by diffusing excess water vapour and oxygen out of the pouch, holding the flower in a stable microclimate without daily burping. But that only works on properly dried flower. Seal it too wet and you have built a mould incubator. Seal it too dry and you have locked in a loss of weight and terpene expression that no amount of patience recovers.

The two numbers that answer that question are dry matter and water activity. Traditionally, getting them meant a benchtop instrument or a sample shipped to a laboratory, with the result arriving days after the decision had to be made.

Portable FT-NIR changes the timing. Near-infrared light reads the material’s spectral fingerprint — no solvents, no consumables, no destroyed sample. From a single measurement on ground flower, an operator gets cannabinoids in neutral and acid forms, an individual terpene profile, moisture and water activity. Standing in the drying room. In seconds.

The same approach reads macro and micro-nutrients directly from leaf tissue while the crop is still standing, which moves nutrient decisions from reactive to preventive.

This does not replace the accredited laboratory. The laboratory remains the reference — it is what our models are calibrated against. What changes is frequency. Testing stops being a gate at the end and becomes a control you run continuously.

For a farm of a fifth of an acre with a reputation built over fifty years, that is not a compliance tool. It is a way of protecting the thing that took fifty years to build.

Meet us there!

Valenveras Portable Lab — handheld FT-NIR for potency, terpenes, nutrients, moisture and water activity, on flower, leaf and extract. Research that grows with you.
